Liam came home from Cindy's today sporting a birthday crown. He wore it at lunchtime (reluctantly, I'll bet) while the other kids sang Happy Birthday to him. He also came home with another hat - some rabbit ears that the kids made to celebrate Easter; and when we unpacked his diaper bag tonight, we found a little Easter treat bag that Cindy had tucked inside for him, containing a toy chick that peeps, a box of animal crackers, a small box of Smarties and two foil-wrapped chocolate eggs inside a larger plastic egg. Upon seeing the eggs, I popped one in my mouth, and Liam did the same with the other. Only problem is, he didn't bother unwrapping his first. I fished it out of his mouth with my finger and you wouldn't believe (or maybe you would) the wailing and tears that ensued. I took the wrapper off, cut a small piece of chocolate and let Liam have it - and the tears stopped pretty quickly after that. The chocolate was forgotten rather quickly, but the plastic egg went into the cargo area of the hippo, and got taken on several laps around the house.
Spent a lot of time today thinking back to this time last year. By 9 p.m. on April 12th, I had already been in labour for 15 hours, and my doctor was promising that Liam would arrive by midnight. He wasn't actually born until 5 a.m. the next morning...
