Fawn Island

This is Fawn Island. It's in the St. Clair River, just a little south of Sombra. Our friends Dave and Renee have cottaged here for more years than I've even known them (which is about 15??) with the exception of the last two years when they were transitioning from one cottage to another. (The island is actually where the two of them met, as both families have had cottages there for years.) It was great to be back.

We park at a gravel pit, and call over for Dave to come pick us up. Waiting at the dock...

En route to the island...

The new property is a beautiful 2-storey 100-year-old cottage that Al Capone used to use for rum running purposes. It has a great dock that goes down to a sandbar so the kids can wade in with no worries. But the big entertainment of the day is Dave driving around on his jetski with the kids in a tube behind him (and the dog swimming along behind, trying to hitch a ride)...

Of course, Liam is a little young for a wet and bumpy ride like that, but Chad certainly enjoyed being the spotter on the back of the jetski!

At the end of the day we tried for a group shot of all the kids. Of about 15 photos, this is the best one. How sad is that? Note that Dave is holding Amelia in place - against her will...

I'm not sure when we'll be back - there was talk of possibly another visit this summer, though it's almost over and I know Dave and Renee have a million and one hosting responsibilities they try to carry out. But we will be looking forward to it when the time comes!
